The Quest for your Story

Power of your Story

I am afraid that no one cares.

In the dark of the night, after a hard day of working towards a mission you are extremely passionate about, you might be knocked over by this quiet voice in your head.

Do you ever wonder whether anyone cares? Maybe you spend a lot of time telling your friends, family, and anyone you know your triumphs and tragedies. Maybe you meet new people every week for coffee and commiserating. Maybe you even reach out to media outlets to share your passion and purpose.

The more it matters to you, the harder it is to keep it inside.

Last month, at a writer’s retreat, a highly popular and well-respected author and inspirational speaker revealed to me that she wasn’t sure whether her story mattered. I couldn’t believe it! Not only was this speaker well-respected and loved, but she is also highly successful.

Just like me, this wonderful woman was afraid that no one cares about her story.

Two years ago, I shared my story of weight loss for the first time. I had yet to figure out what I hoped to accomplish from it, so it was an incredibly lucky break to get the phone call from the magazine. That day remains one of the grandest days of my life.

Since then, I spend a great deal of time sharing my story, whether it’s writing my blog, appearing as a guest, or speaking at an event. Some days, I am thankful that I have touched lives in a positive way. Other days, I doubt that anyone cares.

It wasn’t until I took the chance on sharing my story that I realized how powerful it can be. I now know that my story has the power to inspire and motivate others. I know, because people have told me that.

Do you know how your story can benefit others? Do you have an awesome story, but are not sure how to share it? If so, I invite you to a special day of discovery with two women I admire.

Nikki Abramson and Betty Liedtke are authors, speakers, and most importantly, dear friends. Together, they will teach you how to discover and develop the story of your life. Maybe you are unsure about how your story can touch others, like I was two years ago. Or, maybe you are certain that your story can change lives, but are unsure how best to make that change. Nikki and Betty can help!

Register for an awesome day of discovery on November 8 in Edina, MN HERE.

More from you, please. Share an amazing story from someone who has touched your life. Share this post with them so they know how much they have touched your life.

  1. still trying to decide if my story is worth telling. It isn’t one about weight loss but about depression and how I took the time – as a new and busy working mom – to overcome it. Bloggers are always faced with that question of “will anyone care?” but I think the answer is yes! – Visiting from SITS…

    1. Elisa,

Depression is a very important topic which is often hidden behind a facade of normal. I can’t imagine what you must have gone through as you single-handedly dealt with something that many don’t fully understand. I can say that many would be powerfully moved by your struggle, and especially have you overcome it!

  2. I try move forward with the thought that I don’t care if anyone cares! I try to share things that are relevant to the audience and try not to babble on about pointless stuff, but when when I care, I work under the assumption that SOMEONE out there will care!

    1. Good for you, Lea! It is tough to slog along if you think no one cares. I used to be stubbornly defiant about what anyone thought about me, but I’m finding myself more vulnerable now. I’m not sure if it’s an age thing? In any case, nothing is pointless if it matters to YOU. Thanks for commenting. You matter to me 🙂
